Having a permanent, warm, spacious and safe home is crucial to our physical and mental health, and plays a key role in the development of young children by providing a solid foundation for them on which to grow.
As a result, Fairer Housing began in 2021 when families in desperate need of a decent, affordable home started to meet with local grassroots community groups in West London.
We strive to ensure that affordable and decent homes are available for everyone.
As Fairer Housing, we bring together the voices of the families and individuals most impacted by these poor housing conditions, and the community groups who support them. We aim to centre their experiences in calling for systemic changes, bringing strength to our demands of the UK Government to provide habitable and accessible homes to those who need it most.
Together, we have identified nine comprehensive areas for progressive change. We need changes in local, regional and above all, national policies as well as changes in the law. For this to happen, we need your help. Making sure that everyone has a decent, affordable home is a collective effort.
If you fall into any of the following categories:
Families stuck in unsatisfactory temporary/council housing or housing association homes;
Private renters who are locked out of social housing yet cannot afford to own their homes;
Parents whose adult children cannot afford to move out of the family home;
Community/service groups, organisations and campaigners who share our goals for housing/social justice and equality;
Campaigners and organisations for energy efficient homes to combat climate change;
Politicians whose constituencies have dealt with persistent housing issues;
And all those who agree and believe that the housing crisis must be ended.
